Benefits of Making Music at Home

By Kathy's Music Pittsburgh October 21, 2026

New Kindermusik units are beginning this week, bringing fresh songs, stories, and musical experiences to our classrooms! Some of the most meaningful learning happens when that music comes home.

As your child's first and best teacher, you have something special to offer: a familiar, loving place to explore music together. With your Personal Instrument Kit and music streamed through the Kindermusik App, it's easy to make music part of everyday life.

TAKE A PEEK AT WHAT COMES HOME

Play a favorite song during breakfast. Bring out the instruments for a few minutes of music-making after dinner. Sing together during a diaper change or on the way to preschool.

These little musical rituals give children the repetition they need to strengthen neural connections and build lasting skills. Familiar songs help children develop memory, language, listening, and coordination. Plus, making music with someone they love strengthens the emotional connections that help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

You don't need to add another activity to your day. Just add a little music to the moments you're already sharing.

New to Kindermusik? Our new units make this a wonderful time to discover the joy of making music together.

Where Could Your Music Take You?

Kathy's Music

Every piece of music takes us somewhere new.

That's the idea behind our Fall Recital theme, Where Music Takes Us. And we'd love for students to think about what that might mean for the music they're learning.

Maybe a favorite song brings back a special memory. A piece from a movie makes you imagine the story unfolding. A beautiful melody creates a feeling you can't quite put into words. Or perhaps a new musical challenge takes you somewhere you've never been before as a musician.

There isn't one right destination.

As students choose and prepare their recital music, we hope they'll discover something meaningful about the pieces they're playing and where those pieces might take them.

And we'd love for you to be part of that conversation at home. Ask your musician, “Where does this music take you?”

Fall Recital registration is open through October 24. Talk with your teacher about participating and make this recital one of the memorable stops along your musical journey.
